FTSE LIVE: Consumer confidence slumps; GDP beats expectations; BAE shares jump on warship deal


The confidence of consumers in the UK fell in June, after a short-lived improvement, as pessimism around the state of the economy builds.

Meanwhile, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the UK economy grew 0.2 per cent in the first quarter, and shares in British defence firm BAE bounced after it won a multi-billion pound contract to construct nine Australian warships.
