FTSE CLOSE: Footsie posts small gain; Debenhams finds a new finance chief; Laura Ashley profits slide
The FTSE 100 closed up 8.54 points at 7574.24 and the pound was at $1.29 against the dollar.
Struggling department store chain Debenhams has drafted in a former Domino’s Pizza executive as its new finance chief. Rachel Osborne, who has also done stints at John Lewis and Kingfisher, will replace Matt Smith, who jumped ship in April.
Laura Ashley barely broke even last year, as a ‘softer’ retail environment wiped out most of its profits. Before tax, the retailer’s earnings shrunk to just £100,000, compared with £6.3million the year before.
