Heineken is refurbishing 500 of its 2,900 UK pubs in a £44million makeover.
The investment by the Dutch brewer will create 1,000 jobs and follows the £1.1billion purchase of 1,900 Punch Taverns pubs last year.
The programme – the largest investment by Heineken in its Star Pubs & Bars business – will include 140 major projects costing on average £170,000.
The brewer said it will focus on ‘excellent food, superior service and an enjoyable environment’ for drinkers.
David Forde, UK managing director of Heineken, said: ‘We believe well-invested pubs will continue to prosper.’
