My MiL home insurance renewal quote has gone up by £25 this year. We asked L& G why and the answer was that she put a claim in for a stolen purse in 2015. We told them that she didnt actually claim for it as the excess outweighed the value of the purse and contents. The guy said that doesnt matter, its the fact that she just inquired about it that generated the claim, which in turn generated the increase in premium. This could have also happened in 2016 & 17 too but we didnt realise it. Is this correct? Or even legal? Ive got to say that I thought Id heard everything but this takes the biscuit. If correct, that could mean that 1 phone call cost her approx £75.
