The boss of Aviva was paid £4.3million last year – including a £2.9million bonus.
Mark Wilson earned a £1million salary at the insurer, plus £288,000 towards his pension and £107,000 in benefits such as medical cover and a car allowance.
The New Zealander, a father of three, has seen its shares rise nearly a third since he took charge in 2013.
Profits rose 2 per cent to £3.1billion last year, and £600million has been set aside to buy smaller rivals, although most of its deal-making is expected to take place outside the UK.
