IN THE MONEY: John Lewis chairman Charlie Mayfield

City & Finance Reporter for the Daily Mail

John Lewis chairman Charlie Mayfield was paid £1.4million last year – forgoing his bonus for the second year in a row.

Mayfield, who lives with wife Elizabeth and their three children in Berkshire, also had his pay frozen for the second year after profits at the group plunged 77 per cent last year to £103.9million.

It meant employees, shareholders in the John Lewis Partnership, had their bonus slashed to 5 per cent – the lowest since 1954.

But Mayfield’s hourly earnings were 68 times higher than the average shop-floor worker.
