Tesco boss Dave Lewis bagged a 15 per cent pay rise to £4.9million last year after pocketing almost 1m shares when a long-term performance plan paid out.

The father of two’s base salary was flat at £1.25million, while his annual bonus fell 3.6 per cent to £2.3million and benefits were reduced from £223,000 to £65,000.

Chairman Alan Stewart also got a lift from the supermarket’s share plan, boosting his pay from £2.2million to £2.8million. He received a payout from 530,000 shares, while his salary remained at £750,000.
