Sainsbury’s card terms and conditions


I got a letter from Sainsbury’s today to tell me that they were changing their terms and conditions. Nothing unusual there – the banks seem to do that all the time.

It also came with a little booklet summarising the changes. That’s normal, too.

But what was totally missing was an actual copy of the new Terms and Conditions. Instead, I am supposed to keep checking their web site to see when they decide to make the change – some time in the next four months – and what the new terms are.

This struck me as wrong. It’s supposed to be a regulated consumer credit agreement, and they can’t even be bothered to send me a copy of the T&Cs that I am expected to be agreeing to.

I ended up phoning them, and they are going to send me a copy.

The question is – if the customer has never even seen a copy of the updated terms, then are they even enforceable?

If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn’t working right anyway.
