The Modern House is selling remote Isle of Skye home called The Shed for £545k

It may be clad in timber and called The Shed, but this property is more than just your typical garden structure.

It is a four-bedroom home with an asking price of more than half a million pounds.

Designed by architect Mary Arnold-Foster for her own use, it occupies a magical and remote position overlooking Loch Eishort on the southern tip of the Scottish island of Skye.

The Shed is on the part of the island known as The Sleat – the garden of Skye – surrounded by woodland and against the backdrop of The Cullin rocky mountain range.

It was built 10 years ago and is currently on the market with an asking price of £545,000.

Some may be alarmed at the price-tag given it is nearly triple the average £190,000 value of a property in Scotland, according to property website Zoopla.

But buying agent Henry Pryor describes The Shed as a beautiful executed Scottish gem.

He said: ‘”Don’t judge a book by the cover” might equally apply to those looking at many of the nation’s 27million homes.

‘Lots of people outside the M25 would be incredulous if you suggested that someone should pay half a million pounds to live in a converted garage or stable let alone a couple of million to live in an old mews house.

‘Who would live in something that looks like a warehouse – yet in Hoxton or Southwark they are all the rage.

This Scottish gem has been carefully planned, beautifully executed and for some lucky buyer will be home

‘One of the best bits of my job is seeing the spectacular variety of what Brits call “home”.

‘Ex-lifeboat stations, The Old Piggeries, converted fall-out shelters are not forced into homes, people pay money for the privilege of owning them.

‘This Scottish gem has been carefully planned, beautifully executed and for some lucky buyer will be home.

‘Like a picture that captures the soul, this home will snare someone’s heart and they will empty their pockets for the chance to own it.’

There are two floors with the open-plan living area occupying most of the ground floor.

This area includes a kitchen, dining table and a seating area focused around a wood-burning stove.

Modern House, the estate agent handling the sale, described the property’s location as a ‘world class’ destination for walkers and climbers due to The Kintail hills, Cuillin Range and The Trotternish Ridge being on the doorstep.

The Cullin Range reportedly has a dozen peaks above 3,000 ft for experienced climbers.

The agent went on to say: ‘Skye is an inspiring wilderness surrounded by stunning landscapes, and an extraordinary place for wildlife watching.

‘Otters, seals, whales, dolphins and red deer, among others, roan wild in and around the island.’
